Joanne Chen promoted
to Chief Operations Officer
HCP Packaging Group
Effective July 1st 2011, Joanne Chen has been promoted to Chief Operations Officer, HCP Packaging Group.

Joanne's primary role is global operations management, responsible for the development; design, operation and improvement of the systems supporting the production of packaging across HCP's five manufacturing sites – Shanghai; Suzhou; Huai'an; China; Mexico and Hinsdale, USA.

Joanne has worked for HCP since 1984 and has made an unsurpassable contribution to the growth of the Group over the past 20 years. Joanne will lead the development of the company's expanding production capacity and capability to the next level.

The HCP group would like to take the opportunity to thank Joanne for her persistent devotion to the organisation and congratulate her on her new position.
Al Lustrino joins HCP USA, as President of Sales and Marketing, North America
HCP Packaging USA Inc. has appointed Al Lustrino as President of Sales & Marketing, North America.

With over 28 years of experience in packaging, Al Lustrino brings to HCP a wealth of knowledge from all aspects of the beauty industry. After gaining a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Engineering from Manhattan College, he began his career in packaging as a Molding Engineer for Precision Valve.

Al has worked in many roles in the industry; as Technical Package Engineer for Avon Products Inc., Director of Package Development for Calvin Klein Cosmetics; and Director of Package Development for Gryphon Development - where he was later promoted to Vice President of Package Development.

Al joined the Estee Lauder Group as Vice President of Global Packaging before his most recent role as Vice President of Global New Product and Business Development with Precision Valve – back where his career began.

Commenting on the appointment, HCP's Group President and CEO, Jeff Chen, noted, "We are very excited to have Al join our team here at HCP. With his vast years of experience and collective knowledge from the industry, we look forward to his participation in future product developments and innovations. This is a great turning point for HCP."
Kitty McCombe joins
HCP Packaging UK Ltd
as Sales Director
Kitty McCombe has joined HCP UK as Sales Director, where she will assist in the development of sales strategies relating to the HCP UK accounts.

With a wealth of experience gained in the industry Kitty has been running her own business KM Packaging Solutions, sourcing packaging for skincare, cosmetics and fragrance in the beauty industry working with Far East suppliers. She lived in China for 2 years (Sept 2006 - 2008) working as Sales Manager for an International Trading company China 2 West Ltd. She holds a degree Bed (Hons) in Art and Design.

Kitty brings to HCP strong commercial and development skills which will support the successful realisation of new business for HCP.

Commenting on the new appointment, HCP UK's Managing Director, Jackie Mantle, stated "Whilst we continue to focus on the need to ensure that component and development costs are competitive, through direct sales from HCP's extensive manufacturing operations, it is clear that we need to expand our team to support our successful growth in Europe. Kitty will be instrumental in helping us to achieve our goals".
Full Lash Mascara
HCP's 'Full Lash' Mascara is now fully launched as production tooling in HCP China, with an ABS plastic cap to optimise manufacturing cost and finishing differentiation.

The 'Full Lash' Mascara features a molded soft polymer applicator with a TPE plastic sleeve and a solid inner rivet, which provides stability for the geometrically spaced bristles.

The oversized brush offers a 150% larger surface area when compared to 'standard sized brushes' for mascara product to load and transfer to the lashes. The effect is superior product loading and payoff, that defines and builds lash volume, in as few strokes as possible, for a dramatic 'Full Lash' look.

The large plastic brush has been designed for HCP's 15mm neck stock cylindrical bottle to emphasise the 'oversized' lash concept.

The mascara has been developed with a soft TPE wiper, designed to work with the 'oversized' plastic brush, wiping off just the right amount of product for optimum application and fast build effect.

Shown here in runway inspired brights – a vast combination of colour ways can be utilised in the molding processes to reflect the equity of the Brand. Bold vibrant colours are all the rage for eyes – follow the trend for 'bright' eyes with HCP's 'Full Lash' Mascara.
Vela Baked Powder Compacts
HCP Packaging has created new designs for Baked Cake compacts and this autumn will launch two new square compacts, named Vela, specifically created for baked cakes.

HCP is collaborating with the leading producer of baked cakes, Chromavis, to create and offer an exclusive product proposition.

Square compacts, with the required height to take a baked cake, tend to be 'boxy' and 'ugly', but the Vela design features a softly radiused convex lid, with a window to show the product. The compact base holds an inner platform to present the domed baked powder in a premium format, engineered to accommodate the two most popular diameters for baked cakes – 36mm and 59mm.

HCP's extensive 'in house' decorating facilities, including gloss and matt UV; pearl sprays; metallisation and soft touch finishes are available to create new and unique aesthetic offerings to support and enhance the customers brand equity, in the realisation of these new compact designs.
Hot Pots
HCP's new 'Hot Pot' designs are unique hybrid containers that have been developed to provide an innovative solution to customers requiring the benefits of a clasp opening compact with a wide, deep base for lip gloss/balm type products.

There are two designs available as production tooling:-

1) Fusion 'Hot Pot', which has a straight sided base. The cylindrical, minimal, structure of the 'Hot Pot' follows the design guidelines of HCP's Fusion range, but provides a deep based pot, with a hinged lid and clasp.

2) Cruz 'Hot Pot', which features soft radiused corners to complement the existing range of Cruz screw threaded pots.

The deep base can be molded in transparent or opaque materials and the hinged lid can be supplied with a full size mirror.

These practical new additions to the HCP stock portfolio are perfect for hot poured lip gloss/balm products, where the wide opening stops poured products going under the consumer's nail during finger tip application – a common problem with smaller diameter packs.
HCP diversify into
Stock Airless Pump Systems
HCP Packaging has added diversification to their stock product line up through the introduction of two new airless pump packs. Working in partnership to utilise Korean airless pump technology, HCP offers cost effective Chinese manufacturing costs for the production and finishing of these new packs.

The new Airless pumps are perfect for eye serum products; anti-wrinkle serums; make-up concealers or face primers and are available in two sizes - 5ml or 10ml capacity.

The premium 10ml version has been designed with an aluminium over sleeve with a 'cut out' window on the side of the cylindrical base. This feature allows the consumer to monitor product usage or indicate daily dosage levels.

Both packs can be highly decorated utilising HCP's in house refinishing technology.
HCP Reynosa moves to Phase II
HCP has completed Phase I of the Reynosa, Mexico manufacturing facility and is now in the development of Phase II, which will tentatively involve the installation of a second lacquering line plus an expansion into an additional 40,000 sq ft in the plant.

The current facility spans a 60,000 sq ft area and is located on the Villa Florida Industrial Park in the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas - approximately 15 minutes from the USA border.

In excess of USD$2.80 million has been invested in this new plant, since October 2009, to expand HCP's manufacturing facilities to support the goal of offering USA domestic customers increased opportunities for local production.

Reynosa's production focuses on compacts, mascara and lip gloss and is currently running to support brands including P&G, Almay, Estée Lauder, L'Oréal, Aveda and Avon.

The facility is now fully equipped with new machines including injection and three and four stage injection blow moulding. Additional machinery has been acquired from the sale of Risdon's assets in February 2011, such as warehousing material, QC equipment, decoration and assembly lines.

UV lacquering and metallising lines have now been installed as parts of Phase I. HCP are in the process of qualifying these lines, expected to complete by August 2011.

HCP Reynosa has been audited and approved by L'Oreal. Avon and Estée Lauder have also already conducted their own audits.

Reynosa follows the trend for HCP's future plans and key goals to realise a low cost manufacturing site and invest in automated systems for machinery and assembly lines.
