HCP celebrates 50 years in the business with a new facility!

2010 brings an exciting year ahead for HCP as we celebrate and reflect on 50 years of ‘being in the business’.

HCP successfully weathered the storm of recession in 2009, which undoubtedly adversely affected our industry; through focus on continual investment in packaging innovation, technology, manufacturing capability and new stock products, which delivered a consecutive year of growth, against a market trend of downturn.

Spring 2010 will bring the opening of HCP Mexico - a major investment in terms of manufacturing for HCP to add to its existing four factories; three located in China and the current North American facility in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. This additional USA capacity supports the expanding business and sales growth, which has been strong in the USA market, lead by the sales headquarters located in Shelton, Connecticut.

The new HCP factory is situated in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, close to the USA border. HCP Reynosa and will employ approximately 130 people. HCP intends to transfer a portion of its activities from its Hinsdale, New Hampshire and Shanghai, PRC facilities, to the new factory.

The boom in eyes and mascara technology has meant HCP’s USA sales have grown considerably in the last 12 months and this trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Supply chain considerations and rising transit costs are increasingly encouraging suppliers to develop and expand factories on a localised basis in close proximity to customers filling operations.

The factory will occupy a 70,000 square foot facility located in the Villa Florida Industrial Park, approximately 15 minutes from the US border. Manufacturing capabilities will include injection molding, injection blow molding, UV lacquering, vacuum metallising, as well as decoration and assembly. So many new plans are ahead in 2010 for HCP! HCP’s Fusion Double level pots

HCP’s Fusion Double level pots

HCP announce the introduction of two sizes of ‘Double Level’ pots, cylindrical in shape and available immediately as new standard production tooling, which form part of the extended HCP ‘Fusion Round’ product range. The top section of the pack carries a recess for a filled pan and has a hinged opening lid, fitted with a full size mirror. The bottom section holds a screw threaded SAN pot utilised from the current HCP Meridian pot stock range. The small size measures 36mm in diameter, with a 25mm diameter well recess. The larger size is 48mm diameter with a 36mm diameter well recess.

Both sizes can be supplied with HCP’s standard range of polypropylene or mesh sifters.

The smaller pack (pot capacity 9ml; 5ml with sifter) is suitable for use with a combination of solid eyeliner and eyeshadow/glitter powder type products or, alternatively, lip and cheek stain products. The larger pack (pot capacity 20ml; 10ml with sifter) is more suitable for face products and can be used to present a combination of loose powder, concealer and bronzer/highlighter formulations.

The pots can be UV sprayed or metallised and decorated using HCP’s high performance silkscreen printing or hot stamping technology.

To accompany the new pots HCP have developed the new ‘Powder Seal”. The manufacturing innovation combines the use of PP and film technology to produce a transparent acetate seal for the mesh sifter - perfect for use with fine mineral products.
 
Radical Cube

HCP’s Radical range has been extended with the introduction of a new two-piece container, the Radical Cube.

The Radical Cube is a portable, 50mm diameter, soft square profiled pack that can be used on its own or to hold four smaller individual cubes.

The outer pack features a lift off lid and can be injection moulded in transparent or coloured PS or SAN materials and used as a stand alone primary container for hot poured products such as cream blush, bronzer and highlighters.

The inner cubes are suitable for holding individual baked powders or hot poured products, such as lip glosses, skin colour correctors and concealers, offered as a collection.

The cases can be customised utilising HCP’s high quality refinishing processes in line with the Brand image.

This addition to the contemporary Radical stock line up is perfect for a wide range of cosmetic products or as a mini kit and is fully available as production tooling.
 
HCP Proud to receive P & G’s Supplier Excellence Award

HCP Packaging has been recognised for the second consecutive year by Procter & Gamble and has been awarded with the Supplier Excellence Award for Cosmetics.

The ‘Supplier Day Event’ was held at the P & G Nenagh Plant, in Ireland, where Procter’s US and European Management Teams were in attendance. Donna Nawalkowsky, Cosmetics Upstream leader for P & G, presented the award to Gary Fagan, Vice President of Corporate Account Sales, who accepted this award on behalf of HCP. The award is in recognition of HCP’s commitment and focus to providing quality products in conjunction with overall cost and time efficiencies.

The award focuses on many aspects of the business relationship between P & G and the supplier, namely:-
• Continuous improvement / reduction of lead time in the supply chain
• Cost benefits related to design
• Quality Performance
• Customer Service
• Technical capability

HCP and P & G have worked diligently and closely on many levels during 2009 to develop a true customer/vendor partnership.

In 2010, the achievement will be even more difficult to reach. The expectations are very high but HCP is up to the challenge. With new programs on the horizon for 2010, it will provide more opportunity to support P & G objectives and maintain HCP’s strategic growth model on a global basis.

HCP USA makes a splash!

The 17th Annual HBA Global Exhibition took place September 15-17, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York City. Having participated previously, HCP USA decided to change direction in 2009 and launch their latest innovations aboard ‘The Romantica’. The yacht cast anchor from Chelsea Piers at sunset and sailed the Hudson River.

This creative and more personal way to exhibit, left customers charmed with their surroundings, in more ways than one. All new HCP products, including the latest innovations and trends, were presented in specific sections throughout the yacht. The “innovations station” featured products such as the Push & Pull lipstick, Click pen, Radical cube and Fusion double level pots with Powder Seals.

The guest list included customers from Estée Lauder, Clinique, L’Oréal, Elizabeth Arden, Physicians Formula, Prestige Cosmetics, and Topco. Sales. Mr. Jeff Chen, Group President and CEO of HCP Packaging Group was also in attendance. HCP felt the event was an extremely successful and personal way to present to our customers and hope everyone enjoyed the company and atmosphere.
 
Here comes the HCP sunshine

It’s a little cold to be thinking of warm summer sun, but in preparation, HCP bring a gesture of inspiration with some of our latest stock packs, perfect for any summer bronzing story.

‘Sunshine graphics’ have been created by HCP’s in house Graphic Designer, Nikki Bradshaw, and applied to a collection of HCP’s stock products to create a bronzing collection. The new ‘Festival’ Wet and Dry compact has been selected for the summer look - a double level compact, featuring a smooth contoured, domed top, with a rocker button opening system. The two piece lid design when used with tinted molding colours, offers a huge potential to create innovative decoration techniques. Shown here, with the HCP gold hot foil stamped sunshine situated on the reverse of the full size mirror housing and a gold ink HCP logo on the top of the compact. A ‘layered’ effect can be achieved by adding the logo/design on the surface of the outer lid.

Another new pack featured in the bronzing collection is the innovative click combination pack - Push/Pull lipstick.

A set of minis are a perfect addition for summer portability. The 5ml PET mini pack with an aluminium cap is now available with three different applicator options: mascara brush, lipgloss brush or doesfoot and an eyeliner to complete the family. A larger alternative to the mini pack is the new stock 8ml Lip Glaze, also available in PET with an aluminium cap and doesfoot applicator or nylon brush.
